The excitement continues to build as the next round of the GR Cup, part of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing South Africa, approaches at the Zwartkops Raceway this weekend. Following an exhilarating previous round, where six of the country's best motoring writers showcased their skills behind the wheel of Toyota GR86 road cars, anticipation is high for another thrilling race at this iconic circuit. The racing is set for Saturday, 20 May, with practice taking place on Friday, 19 May.
The drivers who captivated audiences in the previous round and will be vying for victory once again include Mark Jones (Citizen), Denis Droppa (TimesLIVE), Setshaba Mashigo (ASAMM), Chad Luckhoff (Auto Trader), Reuben van Nierkerk (Jumping Kids/Wheels24), and Brandon Staniforth (Maroela Media). Each driver has demonstrated remarkable car control and racing prowess, ensuring an intense battle on the track.
In a special addition to this round, Toyota South Africa Motors' Vice-President: Future Toyota, John Thomson, will be making a guest appearance. Thomson's participation underscores the shared enthusiasm for motorsport and the relentless pursuit of automotive excellence that drives TOYOTA GAZOO Racing South Africa.
As the championship unfolds, the current standings reflect an exciting rivalry at the top. Mark Jones currently leads the championship with 21 points, displaying exceptional consistency and skill. Setshaba Mashigo closely follows in second place, just two points behind Jones, setting the stage for an intense duel between the two.
The Zwartkops Raceway, renowned for its thrilling track layout and spectator-friendly facilities, promises to provide the perfect stage for another captivating race.
